Short version: CouncilAI runs entirely on your device. Your conversations, questions, and data never leave your computer. We collect nothing.
CouncilAI does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. There are no servers. There is no cloud backend. There is no analytics system. Everything CouncilAI does happens locally on your computer.
The following data is stored locally on your computer and never leaves it:
All local data is stored at %LOCALAPPDATA%\CouncilAI\ on Windows.
You can delete this folder at any time to remove all CouncilAI data from your machine.
CouncilAI does not require an account, login, registration, or email address to use. There is no CouncilAI account system.
CouncilAI does not collect usage statistics, crash reports, error logs, or any other telemetry data. No information about how you use the app is ever sent anywhere.
After the initial model download, CouncilAI operates completely offline. The app does not make any network requests during normal use. You can disconnect from the internet and CouncilAI will continue to work normally.
On first launch, CouncilAI downloads AI model files from Ollama's servers (ollama.com). This is a one-time download. The models are stored locally and no further network requests are made during chat sessions. Standard network logs may be created by Ollama's servers during this download, subject to Ollama's own privacy policy.
CouncilAI is sold through Gumroad. Payment processing and purchase data (name, email, payment details) are handled entirely by Gumroad and are subject to Gumroad's Privacy Policy. CouncilAI does not receive or store your payment information.
CouncilAI includes an optional in-app feedback button that opens a Microsoft Forms page in your browser. Submitting feedback is entirely voluntary. Any information you choose to submit through that form is subject to Microsoft's privacy policy. CouncilAI does not automatically send any feedback data — it only opens the form if you click the button.
CouncilAI does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children. Since no data is collected at all, there is no special handling required for users under 13.
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted at councilai.ca/privacy with a new "last updated" date. Since CouncilAI collects no data, changes are unlikely to affect your privacy in practice.
